Wanted: Family-friendly businesses in New West

If you’re anything like me, “family-friendly” wasn’t a concept that really meant much to you until you had a child. Then, suddenly, you realized what all those other people were talking about – and how important it is.

If you’re anything like me, “family-friendly” wasn’t a concept that really meant much to you until you had a child.

Then, suddenly, you realized what all those other people were talking about – and how important it is.

Record readers may know that I’m now writing a Family Ties column, keeping tabs on events, issues and information of interest to local parents and families.

For a future edition, I want to take a look at some of the best “family-friendly” places in New West – especially places to eat and shop.

I have to give a shout-out to the folks at Kids New West, who have a Family Friendly Business program and a directory on their website: http://kidsnewwest.ca/biz/

It’s already given me several good ideas.

But I’m looking for more feedback from local parents, and I’d love to hear from anyone with ideas.

Where do you go out to eat with your kids? Do you go to restaurants, or do you stick to at-home eating? What are your favourite places to shop? What, for you, makes a business “family-friendly” – or unfriendly, as the case may be? Are there particular salespeople, business owners or restaurant staffers in our wonderful city who go out of their way to make young customers happy?

Any and all feedback is welcomed.
