What has Corrigan cost the taxpayers?

Dear Editor

Just a comment on your story re: Mayor Corrigan and the cellphone/wallet/brick or whatever. It is stated that the mayor in question claimed that holding the phone in hand (dead or alive) was due to absent-mindedness and a lack of knowledge; this from a man who deals in millions of dollars gleaned from taxpayers!

It has always been my understanding that driving with one hand is taboo - (certainly while first acquiring or renewing one's licence), just ask the Motor Vehicle Office or their instructors.  But what is really astounding is that it took no less than (what?) one year and eight months for the case to come to completion. Makes one wonder how much this cost ratepayers?  I'm betting it's more than a paltry $167.

All that said, we all make mistakes (I know I have) but the best route is usually to admit it, pay what society demands, and move on - preferably with both hands firmly on the steering wheel.
