UPDATE: Kinder Morgan's injunction kicks in at 4 p.m. today, and it included an enforcement order, which means RCMP can arrest people. However, Kinder Morgan will not be on the mountain. That's right, the company has confirmed they won't be working today, and there's no word on when they will resume the survey work.
Burnaby RCMP are hosting a press conference now to tell media they won't make any arrests today.
"We have discretion to use the enforcement order, when and where we wish," Staff Sgt. Major John Buis told the NOW.
There's a massive rally starting at 3 p.m. on Burnaby Mountain, and as I write this, more than 900 people have RSVPd to attend, according to Facebook. Not everyone will show up of course. The protesters are circulating a couple of phone numbers for legal advice.
BROKE is suggesting people follow the law, and if anyone wants to engage in civil disobedience, that's his or her individual choice. Most of the Burnaby protesters are from the baby boomer generation and some have ties to SFU. I've also noticed a younger generation mostly from Vancouver - these are the more passionate types I suspect will get arrested.
Getting arrested could actually boost the protesters' profile, since that would garner widespread media coverage. That stand off is already a national story, and it's likely to spread beyond Canada (the KM Face meme has already). A group of people protesting a pipeline through a public park is just too irresistible. There will be a ton of media on the mountain as well.
I will be there to cover the events, as they unfold. Keep an eye on my Twitter feed as I post from the field. @JenniferMoreau
