Why is mayor opposed?

Dear Editor:

Isn't it funny that the day after a story is run in the Burnaby Now saying that the City of Burnaby is set to raise our property taxes by 2.9 per cent for the second year in a row, the mayor is in the paper arguing against the auditor general for local government (AGLG)? This is exactly why the government brought in the AGLG in the first place! The AGLG will help municipalities find efficiencies in their operations so they don't raise our taxes. Mayor Corrigan is opposed for purely self-interested reasons - he doesn't want the scrutiny.

Sorry Mr. Mayor - I'm with the taxpayers on this one.
