I have just read your story about a landlord who has the audacity to send a letter telling the tenants to basically bankrupt themselves to pay the rent and, further, that not all tenants will be treated equally as required by numerous statute laws.
The BC Human Rights Act applies, as does the BC Residential Tenancies Act.
I also think that landlords can and should under these specific circumstances be held liable for compensatory damages given the difficulty and danger that any attempt to cause tenants to move places them at a significantly increased risk of catching COVID-19. It also places them at significant risk of severe consequences for complications.
