Burnaby need a redesign of some local bus routes. Years ago, I took the late-Mayor Doug Drummond on a tour of Burnaby by buses.

Route 134 (in Brentwood) is a problem as well as other routes, mostly Community Shuttle routes. TransLink is only interested in wasting our money on big projects like the $1 million rebranding of RapidBus.

There are many examples from other cities of how to provide transit.

One idea is to have on-demand transit by expanding the HandyDART system to cover low-density, low ridership areas like 134.

Burnaby should develop a new transit system and convince TransLink to try something new.

With the climate emergency, we need the majority of trips to be done by walking, transit and cycling.

Lower fares and free fares for students and low-income riders would help maximize the use of transit.
