I am a 13-year-old student at Alpha Secondary School. On a rainy day recently, I was walking through the Safeway parking lot and was shocked to see a truck idling with no one inside except for a dog.

This made me wonder why so many people do not seem to care about the negative impacts their actions can have on the earth’s climate.

I say this because from the federal level, all the way to the random person in a Safeway parking lot, people are careless as to how they treat the environment. With Justin Trudeau trying to force the Trans Mountain pipeline through, I think people need to realize that we must start transitioning away from relying on fossil fuels to using clean renewable energy sources.

This is why I think the pipeline e should not go through. I also hope that at least at the municipal level some action can take place, and our new mayor, Mike Hurley, can ensure that anti-idling bylaws are enforced.
