Letter: 'Ken in Burnaby' wrong, but outdoor rules are excessive

I don't agree with the fact that “Ken in Burnaby” is being defiant and thinks that he is devout of the rules.
However, I walked Deer Lake the other day. Whether you are going with the grain or against the grain, you are coming just as close to people in either direction.

The reality is not everyone else walks at the same speed. People have to “pull over to let others pass,” which at that point makes the whole one way pointless.
Personally, I feel like the protocols on outdoor spaces have gotten excessive. I went to Buntzen Lake to fish the other day, not realizing that it's closed. This is an example of where I feel it's excessive. There's no code contact and you aren't touching anything, except your rod and hopefully a fish.
Another current problem to fuel the Ken's mindset. Protests started over 12 days ago with regards to George Floyd. With a median incubation period of four to five days for COVID-19, mathematically we should have seen breakouts by now, which we haven't.

Considering this, it could make someone really question why they would have to walk one way in a huge outdoor space.
I'm not sure who Ken is, but I will spread for myself. Ever since the COVID-19 breakout, I have not really paid much attention to the idea of whether I contracted it or not.

I refuse to use hand sanitizer as it kills the helpful bacteria on my hands. I have washed my hands more than normal, but I refuse to live in fear. I have a strong immune system and would rather contract it and fight it off, than be forced to take a vaccine with questionable safety.
The world has been living in fear, which I never will because I choose love. This fear has been fueled by the media's over-sensationalizing and people's preformed belief systems which are rarely fact based. I have watched this cause fights between family and rifts between friends. All because they watch too much news and don't search the truth for themselves.
The reality though is that if left to the populace, we have proven that society generally fails us, hence why we need rules.
