A passenger on the SkyTrain wrote to complain about the loud, high-pitched squeal of the rapid transit train in the vicinity of the Royal Oak station.

There are several locations on the network where sharp curves produce loud wheel noise.

TransLink could significantly reduce the noise at these locations by slightly widening the gauge of the rails.

Another solution would be the installation of rail flange lubricators at the problematic locations.

Finally, TransLink could install sound attenuation walls adjacent to the track. Sound reduction walls have been used at many locations on the SkyTrain network.
