The Society To End Homelessness welcomes the exciting news that 52 new supportive homes are being proposed for vulnerable homeless men and women living in Burnaby. The city and province are to be commended for their work on this initial project dedicated for Burnaby’s homeless.

People experiencing homelessness cope with significant health problems and poverty. The stress of couch surfing, temporary shelter and inadequate nutrition contributes to an average lifespan of 49 years vs. 82 for the general population.

The support services provided by Progressive Housing will help people gain stability, self-esteem and become healthier, leading to opportunities such as reconnecting with family and skills retraining for jobs or volunteerism. A better quality of life lets people transition to more independent living, more fully participate in the community and lead more normal, happier lives.

Together this community can end local homelessness through B.C. Housing providing the appropriate resources supporting the solutions to the existing homeless crisis in Burnaby, and elsewhere in B.C.

Thank you for taking this action.
