The big-but-not-actually-funny joke about the Metro Vancouver housing crisis is that winning a million dollars isn’t what it used to be.

Editor: I’d love it if you could write an opinion or article on the serious garbage issue around Byrne Creek high school and the lack of resolve the City of Burnaby and the Burnaby School District is putting into it.

In 2017 you would have been lost in a large, skeptical crowd certain how the B.C. NDP would steward the economy in British Columbia. There weren’t even bets to take on it.

The call went out to Burnaby NOW readers recently as I followed up the City of Burnaby’s attempts to crack down on what I termed a “zombie house” that has been left to rot and die by its owner.

When I was growing up in North Burnaby, I couldn’t understand why some of the streets near my home were blocked to traffic. I lived near Broadway and Springer Avenue in the 1970s and ‘80s.

The expansion of the Amazing Brentwood shopping mall is moving tooooo slowly. That’s what I say every time I see something new added to the roster of food outlets coming to North Burnaby.

I must admit I didn’t really know much about shawarma until I heard about it from Iron Man. Yes, Tony Stark, at the end of Avengers jokes about going for shawarma after defeating an alien army.

I don’t normally get emotional when reading news stories. Thirty years of reading about tragedies will do that to a person.

Dear editor: Re: Contractor Calls for Empathy Following Theft of His Truck , Feb. 7 news story. A shoutout to Jim West for his empathetic response to an upsetting event (i.e. having his truck stolen and articles left behind in his truck).

Let me start by saying this about the soon-to-be-opened Rec Room – I grew up a few blocks from the old Brentwood mall and would have crawled over broken glass to have this stuff. I can’t wait until the Rec Room is open.
