These Burnaby buildings will offer a sweet sandy beach or an indoor cycling track

Burnaby developers keep one-upping each other with amenities.

As Burnaby detached houses become more and more affordable – the benchmark price has now hit $2 million – people are looking at condos to spend their money.

And the reasoning seems to be a good one, at least to me.

Owning a house means constant maintenance and upkeep, something that at my age – 53 – isn’t that appetizing.

But a different lure these days is the incredible effort to add sick amenities that mean you don’t have to give up comfort by moving into highrise.

Concord Pacific in Burnaby unveiled last summer what it calls the “world’s largest and most comprehensive bike amenity ever planned for a condo development.”

Once built, Concord Metrotown will be home to a more than 50,000-square-foot accessible facility that will house multiple areas just for cycling fans, including a dedicated elevator just for cyclists to transport their bikes. There will also be a gear room stocked with enough tools to make Tony Stark proud so cyclists can repair and maintain their bikes, and an indoor bike loop so cyclists can pedal and get exercise if the weather is bad.

Talk about catering to an audience.

Concord Pacific also recently announced plans for the next phase of its huge Brentwood development that will be called Oasis.

The centrepiece is a 120,000-square-foot outdoor beachfront and running track. This, together with 30,000 square feet of indoor amenities, is all part of the park front phase of the 26-acre major development located south of Lougheed Highway between Beta and Delta Avenues. The project currently has four towers under construction that are set to be completed by the end of 2022.

Oasis would be an additional three towers with 900 residences.

Inspired and modelled after beachfront resorts such as Hilton Village and lagoon on Waikiki Beach, this bright 2.75-acre wellness escape will include an upper level 400 m track/walking path and garden area above overlooking a lower-level lounging lagoon. The beach experience can be experienced and viewed from the development’s indoor pool. There will also be a bowling alley added to the leisure centre as well as a full gym.

So, sure, no backyard but you do have an incredible pool and some sandy beaches to kick back on when the weather is nice.
