This 'Eppich House,' designed by one of Canada's most famous architects, is for sale in West Vancouver

The house is going for $14 million

One of the most famous houses in Metro Vancouver is up for sale.

Arthur Erickson is one of the most famous architects from Vancouver, having designed some iconic buildings and structures, including the Museum of Anthropology at UBC, Robson Square downtown and Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.

Now one of his local creations is up for sale for a mere $14 million.

The Eppich House was built in 1972, on a lot previously thought unbuildable on Palmerston Avenue in West Vancouver. It had been a fill dumping site before, along a stream.

Erickson's creation is a massive three-story concrete and glass home, considered a masterpiece of the West Coast Modern style. The landscape design even uses the stream to create a pond in the backyard as a place of quiet.

While the building is nearly 50 years old, recent renovations have updated parts of it, including the kitchen.

"The house was conceived as the perfect family dwelling with 4 generous bedrooms with their own balconies, including a serene master with a steam-shower ensuite looking out on the shimmering reflection pond," writes realtor Jason Soprovich on his website. In addition, the home features a private office/study, a new theatre room, a gymnasium and ample flex and storage areas, all within approximately 5,000 sq. ft of ideal living space."

The massive house is relatively hidden from the street, with just the carport visible to passersby, but the structure moves down the hillside.

"Erikson’s Eppich House is simply one of West Vancouver's most historically important & impressive estates," writes Soprovich.
