The potential view from Dawson Street after The Grove, a parcel of land in Brentwood, is redeveloped.

You can see the potential future of the Brentwood neighbourhood on Thursday.

The city will be hosting a “master plan viewing” for The Grove – a nine-acre plot of land between Dawson Street, Willingdon Avenue, Alpha Avenue and Alaska Street – from 3 to 7 p.m. at Burnaby City Hall (4949 Canada Way).

The area is expected to be home to the latest flurry of development in the area, with the city envisioning high-density condos, rental apartments, commercial and office buildings.

Its location near the Willingdon overpass makes it particularly ripe for development, according to a city staff report.

“A defining feature of the site is the location of the Willingdon overpass, which is located at the southwest corner of the site linking the Brentwood Town Centre to BCIT and office parks on the north and south side of the Trans-Canada Highway. Given its strategic location within the Brentwood Town Centre, this area’s redevelopment presents a unique opportunity to create not only a gateway for the town centre, but a residential neighbourhood for the employment and educational facilities to the south,” states the report.

At this stage, there are no specific plans being considered by city council, but the municipality is working on a master plan that will guide future rezoning of the area.

Staff will be on hand at the viewing session to answer any questions the public may have.
