Anyone who has opted for ink on their body will tell you—getting a tattoo is a big commitment; however, not all tattoos produce or maintain the desired result.

If you have any unwanted permanent makeup (PMU) or body tattoos, there is a permanent tattoo removal treatment that's effective on all areas, even your eyebrows.

Whether your PMU is outdated, you received a disappointing outcome (perhaps the shape isn't desirable, or the colour is too deep or faded), or you just want a change, now is the time to explore your options at Burnaby's Meraki Beauty Bar.

Celebrating their grand re-opening on May 24 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. in their renovated two-level, 1,700 square-foot space, Meraki Beauty Bar is excited to offer tattoo laser removal service with their new state-of-the-art laser system, PicoWay by Candela.

"We spent a year researching different types of tattoo removal lasers and found PicoWay to be the best on the market," says Michelle Tran, owner of Meraki Beauty Bar.

"It's the safest and most effective way to eliminate an unwanted tattoo. It's gentler than other systems and doesn't affect the client's natural brow hair, although it may lighten it slightly, but it doesn't affect the surrounding tissue."

The system emits a picosecond laser with ultra-short bursts of energy and high-power pulses, without any side effects or downtime, and produces results within four to six weeks after your first session.

Expect a 45-minute session on your first visit (includes prep and process explanation), with subsequent treatments of 15 to 20 minutes.

At Meraki, they have a full team of talented, highly-skilled certified artistry technicians, armed with notable precision, training and professionalism.

If you book a tattoo laser removal appointment, you'll meet Veronica Chau, lash artist and Meraki's only tattoo removal specialist.

"Veronica was very proactive and got certified for all laser removal," reveals Tran. "She understands skin theory really well and took the extra steps to learn and educate herself."

PhiRemoval is also available, which uses a glycolic acid solution and slowly removes the pigment. "We find it's really good to remove a lip tattoo, however, results are not as fast as laser," Tran says.

Services, premium salon experience

Other services include lashes, such as eyelash extensions, lifts and tints. "Our most popular is Lash Lift, because most people are going really natural these days," Tran reveals.

Also available are eyebrow services, including microblading, power ombre, combination (microblading & powder ombre), nano, and brow lamination. Meraki offers lip blush: a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo; and scalp micropigmentation (SMP), as well. "If someone is thinning, we tattoo tiny impressions to create a denser scalp," explains Tran.

More than just a beauty salon, Meraki seeks to empower women to look and feel their very best by being a one-stop shop for all their beauty needs.

The significance behind their name, Meraki, is a Greek word meaning: to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself in your work.

"I think that's really important and I thoroughly enjoy helping people," says Tran. "If you're helping one person, they'll help you, they'll help others—like a ripple effect."

"We're big on supporting women, and it all starts with me and the ladies that work at the shop."

Community outreach, grand re-opening

Tran performs a lot of charitable work in the community, throughout the DTES, too, and as well has completed 15 free PMU work for cancer survivors. "We want to make these clients feel just as good as how they look," she says.

Meraki is offering a 15% discount on all services to everyone who mentions this article at the grand re-opening and books an appointment in person on May 24 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Drop in for giveaways, music, food and drink, and more; like their information desk on tattoo laser removal. "We're more than happy to answer any questions, so if you're interested, that's the best time to come in and ask."
