As winter chills set in, Burnaby Heights is gearing up once again for its signature holiday event, ‘Deck the Heights,’ starting December 2, 2023.
This year’s event will highlight the comfort and connection felt throughout the community year-round while featuring a delightful seasonal flare full of joy, laughter, and a healthy sprinkle of holiday magic. Visitors and residents alike are invited to enjoy several attractions, including Santa’s Merry Stroll through Burnaby Heights from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Window Decorating contest from December 2 to 16, where residents and visitors can vote for a winner and be entered to win a $100 gift certificate to their preferred Burnaby Heights business.
This beloved event, a fixture in the community's calendar, marks the onset of the holiday season in Burnaby Heights.
Santa Claus and many others are coming to town
Deck the Heights features several family-friendly attractions, including the opportunity to meet Jolly St. Nick himself during his Merry Stroll as he walks through Burnaby Heights, spreading holiday joy and making personal visits to numerous businesses along the way.
This year’s Window Decorating Contest will bring the neighbourhood to life with twinkling holiday lights. The contest, which kicks off the same day as Santa’s stroll, is a much-anticipated highlight where participating businesses along Burnaby Heights transform their windows into captivating holiday-themed displays.
Competing for ‘Best Holiday Window Display’ and ‘People’s Choice’ titles, these businesses will showcase their creativity and holiday spirit. This contest, co-sponsored by Burnaby Now, adds a friendly competitive edge to the festivities, encouraging participating businesses to put forth their most imaginative and festive displays.
Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite window displays to select the winner. This interactive element not only fosters a sense of community but also gives participants a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to their preferred Burnaby Heights business, with decorations expected to remain until December 24 or beyond to illuminate the neighbourhood and create a cozy yet picturesque holiday setting.
Keep it local, make it special
Emphasizing the spirit of loving local, the Heights Merchants Association, which organizes Deck the Heights, encourages community members to shop close to their hearts this holiday season. This event is more than just a celebration; it's a vital initiative that supports local business owners and neighbours, strengthening the beating heart of the community.
On December 2, residents are invited to Hastings Street in Burnaby Heights to don their winter attire and partake in the merriment for an event that promises to be an unforgettable experience for families and individuals alike.
With its blend of commemorating beloved traditions and further fostering community ties, Deck the Heights is poised to be a celebration that highlights the true meaning of the holiday season: connection, camaraderie and care.
