The Burnaby Lake Rugby Club’s premier men’s team turned the page after a tough loss two weeks ago against Capilano, by taking it out on the UVic Vikes 57-5 in B.C. Rugby Union action.

Mike O’Toole, on a great run by Lucas Albornoz, opened the scoring before the 10-minute mark, while Neil MacLaine notched the convert. Less than 12 minutes later, Burnaby upped its lead to 14-0 when Jami Kelly went wide and drove past the defence for another score.

The run was on.

Also scoring for the Lake crew were Dan Josok and Andrew Porter, with two each, Reid Watkins, Brian Fitzpatrick and Ben McDougall. McLaine was kept busy, finishing with six converts.

In premier women’s play, the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club’s premier women’s side bested Bayside last week 34-24, thanks to two tries each from Annie Arnott and Lauren Tagg.

Chipping in with single tries were Alexandra Fern and Shayna Slobin, while Chelsea Rodgers kicked two converts.
