Lakers to start WLA season on long road trip

The Burnaby Lakers will hit the road for four games to start the 2019 Western Lacrosse Association season. The league unveiled it's 2019 schedule for the seven-team loop on Tuesday.

The Burnaby Lakers will hit the road for four games to start the 2019 Western Lacrosse Association season.

The league unveiled it's 2019 schedule for the seven-team loop on Tuesday.

Burnaby, which finished the 2018 season outside of the playoffs, kicks off the new season on May 25 in Coquitlam. They also pay visits to Langley (May 29), Victoria (May 31), and Maple Ridge (June 2) before hosting their first game at the Bill Copeland Arena, June 7 against the reigning WLA playoff champion Burrards. Five of the team's nine home dates are in June.

The regular season concludes on July 26, when the Nanaimo Timbermen come to town.

The league will mark a couple of key anniversaries this year, with the season-opening contest between New Westminster and Langley, on May 23, the start of the 'Bellies' 130th season. Victoria, meanwhile kicks off its 70th year on May 24 against Island rival Nanaimo.
