Burnaby's Morris brothers made life difficult for the opposing Columbia Bible College Bearcats, combining for 43 points and eight steals to lead the Douglas College Royals to a 111-61 victory in PacWest men’s basketball action on Friday.

The Royals were in complete control from the opening tip off in Abbotsford, rolling off to a 12-0 lead before the Bearcats put up a point. Cam Morris connected for a pair of treys in the early run, and went five of nine from long distance. The younger sibling, both graduates of St. Thomas More, counted 20 points, six assists, five steals and four blocks, while older brother Reese led all shooters with 23 points, adding six rebounds and three steals.

Douglas led 31-12 after one quarter and 52-21 at halftime.

Coming off the bench to drain 16 points and haul down nine boards was Burnaby South alumnus Aidan Wilson, while Terry Fox product Josiah Mastandrea chipped in 15 points and went three-for-11 from three-point zone.

Courtney Anderson contributed 10 points and six assists, as the Royal finished with a 50.5 shooting percentage.

A day later, the result was not a win but a good learning experience for Douglas, as they fell 97-75 to Simon Fraser University in an exhibition contest in Burnaby.

Tied 21-21 midway through the second quarter, SFU garnered control on a run, thanks to three straight treys, off the hands of Coquitlam’s Graham Miller and Jasdeep Singh. While they were up 52-39 at halftime, the Clan were put on the defensive when the Royals charged back, getting it to 58-57 on consecutive three-pointers by Dylan Kinley.

But SFU regained its advantage, thanks to the play of starter Wilfried Balata, and exited with a strong win.

Singh and Balata led SFU shooters with 27 and 22 points, respectively. Mastandrea cashed in 24 points to lead Douglas, while Anderson added 19 in the loss.

Douglas College, which wraps up the first half of the season Friday against the Capilano University Blues at the New West campus (8 p.m.), is currently ranked first in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association.
