St. Thomas More Collegiate alumna Mary Parsons continues to tee off from the better tee boxes.
The second-year student-athlete at Indiana University was named to Canada’s golf team for the upcoming 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
The 20-year-old Parsons will be representing her country for the second time, after earning a spot on the Team Canada junior squad.
Parsons will join Brigitte Thibault and Joey Savoie of Quebec and Austin Connelly of Nova Scotia on the team for the Aug. 8 to 11 competition.
It’s just another bright spot in the Delta native’s season, which saw her complete the year tied for 11th with a score of 145 (72-73) at the Big 10 Women’s golf championships, a significant improvement on tied for 43rd a year ago as a freshman.
In April, the sophomore secured her first collegiate victory for Indiana, posting rounds of 70 and 66 to finish 8-under par on a weather-shortened Lady Boilermaker Classic. At the Butler Falls Invitational last October Parsons shot 142 (68-74), good for second overall.
