Overnight rain helped to wash away wildfire smoke from Burnaby and the rest of the region, and rain is expected to continue through the afternoon and evening. Metro Vancouver has now cancelled an air quality advisory for the region.

Overnight rain — including thunder and lightning — helped to wash away poor air in Burnaby.

Metro Vancouver has cancelled the air quality advisory that had been in effect for Burnaby and the rest of Metro Vancouver since Aug. 25. The advisory stemmed from high levels of fine particulate matter caused by wildfire smoke from B.C. and Washington State.

The cancellation notice was issued shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

As of now, Metro Vancouver’s Air Map shows Burnaby’s air quality health index at low risk levels, with the index sitting at a 3 for five of the city's six monitoring stations and at a 2 for Burnaby Mountain.

It’s currently 16 C and overcast in Burnaby, rain expected to continue through the afternoon and evening, according to the Weatherhood local forecast.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, Aug. 30) calls for a high of 19 C, with a possible 2 mm of rain, and a high of 18 C and a possible 4 mm of rain on Thursday.

You can keep an eye on current local conditions at the AirMap website and at the Weatherhood local site.
