Ryan Nugent-Hopkins eclipsed a new career milestone last night, May 14, against the team he grew up watching.
The Burnaby NHL forward has reached 50 points in 58 Stanley Cup playoff games after he scored Edmonton's second goal in the Oilers' 3-2 victory over Vancouver at Rogers Place.
The win evened the second-round series 2-2 with the Canucks.
Nugent-Hopkins, 32, potted his second marker of the postseason with 40 seconds left in the second period to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead.
The Burnaby Winter Club alum picked up a loose puck just outside the offensive zone, creating a two-on-one alongside Connor McDavid, and fired a shot past Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs.
The goal also extended Nugent-Hopkins' current playoff point streak to five games, consisting of a goal and six assists.
He is now the 13th player in Edmonton's history to reach 50 playoff points and, according to the NHL, was the ninth-fastest among those players to reach the mark.
Nugent-Hopkins was the number-one overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft by Edmonton.
He's currently in the third year of an eight-year, $41 million contract he signed in 2021 with an annual average salary of $5.125 million per season.
Across his career, the former BC Hockey minor player of the year (2008) has compiled 251 goals and 699 points in 881 NHL regular-season games.
Internationally, Nugent-Hopkins has played 24 games with a Canadian national team.
Edmonton and Vancouver will now play a best-of-three series to determine who will move on to the western conference final, and who will be Canada;'s last hope of winning the Stanley Cup.
Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, in Vancouver.
