When it comes to construction in Burnaby, one company is making waves for its innovative approach and commitment to quality.

Turner Construction Company Ltd. is a global firm with strong local presence and experience that is transforming the Burnaby landscape, building both interiors and ground-up projects to a high-quality finish. Nothing exemplifies this more than the recently completed Laurel Street Works Yard, a 130,000 sq ft post-disaster facility featuring state-of-the-art design and architecture.

The Laurel Street Works Yard is a state of the art facility designed for the City's public works department and infrastructure services, a private fuel station an industrial-sized vehicle servicing center, offices, ten highly specialized shop spaces, a 50 meter long stormwater retention system, a 27 meter tall monopole, and an extensive emergency backup power system. The Laurel Street Works Yard Project features a uniquely expansive array of highly specialized and complex features that each required extensive coordination and collaboration with expert trade-partners and consultants.

Today, with over 140 employees and an annual revenue over $250 million, Turner Construction is a leader in local tenant improvement projects and is building an expansive ground-up project portfolio, having completed over 8,000,000 sq ft of projects across the Lower Mainland.

“The unique thing about the project is the array of different features that this facility has and the complex integration of how these spaces function,” says Jessica Levangie, senior project manager.

Despite the project's complexity, Turner Construction worked hand-in-hand with the City of Burnaby, the design team led by Omicron AEC, and trade-partners to revise the facility power supply midway through construction to support the City of Burnaby’s EV charging initiatives. The upgrades involved executing major electrical design changes on the fly while delivering the project to the city’s satisfaction. The project team collaborated with the city, working closely with the council and residents to keep the works yard operating and serving the Burnaby community throughout the construction process.

“We really strive to be easy to work with, and be solution-focused team players on the project,” Levangie says.

“We understood that the client's main goal was to have a long lasting facility. So therefore, quality and durability was of the highest importance on this project. We also established a team environment that was very cohesive.”

The Laurel Street Works Yard is just one of many projects Turner Construction has undertaken in Burnaby.

In the city's Works Yard site, Turner Construction has completed two new structures, a storage shed and a main building. These buildings will be used as a facility for fleet servicing and housing related storage and offices. The main building is a four-storey non-combustible structure with a building area of approximately 72,656 sq ft used for fleet maintenance and for associated offices.

Turner Constuction's commitment to quality extends beyond the buildings it constructs. The company understands the importance of being a good neighbour and working with tenants and building landlords to ensure minimal disruption. In Burnaby, Turner Construction is currently constructing two Class A commercial concrete office buildings on Sanderson Way, one of which is being leased by Electronic Arts.

With a commitment to quality and collaboration, Turner is poised to continue building a better Burnaby for years to come. For more information, visit www.turnerconstruction.com
