QUESTIONS (in 50 words or less unless specified)

Tell us about yourself. (100 words)

I was born and raised in China and immigrated to Canada in 2001.  I had a Bachelor's degree in engineering when I came to Canada. Once here, I obtained a Master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Windsor in Ontario. I am passionate about environmental pro-tection and sustainable development.  My values align with those of the Burnaby Green Party. I would like to contribute to my Canadian home the City of Burnaby. I would bring a multicultural perspective and a commitment to life-long learning to the role of School Trustee.

What are the top 3 issues facing the Burnaby school board?

Careful management of education funding is an issue. Secondly, school funding for ESL programs is a big issue in Burnaby since we have many ESL students. Another issue for the school board is the need to complete seismic upgrades and get children out of portables and back into regular classrooms.

What has the current school board done right?

The current school board has provided fair and reasonable financial stewardship.

What have they done wrong?

I believe that more can be done to provide all children with equal opportunities to learn and reach their full potential.

What is your favourite thing about Burnaby public schools:

Burnaby public schools do a great job educating and socializing children from diverse cultural backgrounds! Much of Canada's economic and multi-cultural success is due to the dedication and commitment of the public school system.

What 3 people would you invite to a dinner party?

My father, who was hardworking, selfless and energetic, and his spirit encouraged me to contribute to the community; retired entrepreneur, Jack Gin, who has chosen to live in Burnaby to support environmental and social causes; UBC student, Jodie Xie, who supports Green Party, wishes a better Burnaby for younger generations.
