Recently retired firefighter Mike Hurley wants to be the next mayor of Burnaby.

Hurley was a member of the Burnaby Fire Department since 1988, where he rose up through the ranks to become an acting assistant fire chief before retiring this year. He has also been heavily involved with his union, serving as president of the Burnaby Firefighters from 2001 to 2009.

He also served as president of the BC Professional Firefighters from 2008 to 2016. He remains one of 16 district vice presidents of the International Association of Fire Fighters for western Canada.

Hurley has decided “it is time for a change in Burnaby,” according to a press release from the current president of the Burnaby Firefighters, Jeff Clark.

Hurley will make his run official at a press conference Tuesday morning.
