As part two of a series of three columns on perfecting homemade burgers, this one will focus on ingredients to add to the hamburger mix, and the next column will be on burger toppings and bread selection.

Hats Off Day was a blast this year, despite a brief bout of heavy rain. Hats Off Day, one of Burnaby's best-loved festivals, is an annual opportunity for Heights businesses to take their hats off to local residents to thank them for their patronage.

Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan was one of 86 mayors at the first B.C. Mayors' Caucus last month.

Three Burnaby teams participated in the Odyssey of the Mind Finals this year, and each is receiving a $1,000 community grant to help with travel costs. City council approved the community grants at the May 28 council meeting.

Burnaby resident Janice Heinze, an ambulance paramedic, was chosen to be a medal bearer in the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay. Heinze ran her leg of the relay along Broadway in Vancouver on May 21.

Build it, and they will come. That could well have been the motto for the early leaders of SFU who, after much debate and planning, chose Burnaby Mountain as home for B.C.'s newest university.
