Caravan TV and the Afghan Association of B.C. are holding the second annual celebration of Afghan culture this Sunday at Burnaby's Confederation Park. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The B.C. Seniors Games came to a close on Aug. 25 with a gala afternoon ceremony at the Michael J. Fox Theatre.

School may be out for summer, but the Burnaby Teachers' Association is hosting a party for Ian Cunliffe, the North Vancouver teacher who set off on a cross-B.C. marathon to raise awareness about the provincial government's Bill 22.

Snip snip: Takenori Omiya, an eco-sculpture assistant with the City of Burnaby, trims a whale featured on Marine Drive. The city has a number of ecosculptures, including an eagle and a trio of bears.

In late summer when annuals are lanky, tired and dried out, a whole contingent of fall-flowering perennials are opening fresh buds for a display of colour that continues from August to frost. Some enjoy shade.
