The Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival works hard every year to nurture the next generation of blues fans – and this year is no exception. The festival is once again encouraging families to turn out for the festival on Saturday, Aug.

Durrah Alsaif believes in art as a force for social change. Alsaif’s work will be on display at Deer Lake Gallery starting Aug. 18 in the upcoming exhibition Jawahir: jewels. An opening reception will be held Aug. 18 starting at noon.

Jazz and good beer? Count us in. Burnaby’s own award-winning Dageraad Brewing has a new Sunday afternoon jazz performance series. Every Sunday, from 3 to 6 p.m., the company features jazz musicians at its tasting room – with no cover charge.

Bhangra, reggae, hip hop and blues all join forces with spoken word and poetry when RupLoops takes to the stage.

The work of a rising young artist will be on display at Burnaby Neighbourhood House’s north location in August. North House will be showing artwork by 19-year-old Anna Tsybulnyk for the month of August.
