23-year-old cyclist hit in Burnaby fighting for his life: police

Burnaby RCMP say cyclist was hit while crossing MacPherson Avenue at Beresford Street at noon Sunday

A 23-year-old cyclist is fighting for his life after being struck by a vehicle in Burnaby’s Metrotown area this weekend.

The cyclist had been crossing MacPherson Avenue at Beresford Street just before noon on Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle driving northbound, according to the Burnaby RCMP.

The driver of the vehicle, a black Volkswagen, remained on scene and continues to cooperate with the investigation, police said.

“The cyclist was transported to hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries,” stated an RCMP news release Monday morning.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or might have dascam video of it to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
