B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix is earning some praise from the B.C. Nurses’ Union for more than doubling the number of specialty nurse training opportunities by funding 1,000 seats each year at Burnaby’s BCIT.

It’s no fun having to shovel out your vehicle after a winter snowstorm. I know – I had to do it this morning (Monday). I’m not in the best physical shape, but it had to be done. And when I say “done,” I mean completely done.

People in the City of Burnaby are digging out today (Monday) from a couple days of heavy snow. Residents and business owners are being reminded that they must clear sidewalks of snow and ice for the safety of pedestrians.

My friend and I found ourselves driving through Burnaby last night at around 10 p.m. – just as the snowfall had picked up again and the temperatures had dropped to below freezing.

What’s the first rule of driving in the snow? Slow down. Take a breath and drive slower than you normally do because it’s icy out and your vehicle won’t be able to stop like it would in pristine conditions.

The Burnaby School District announced early Monday morning that the public schools will still be open today, despite heavy snowfall Sunday and through the night.

More snow is expected to hit Burnaby, the city says, and work on clearing the white stuff from Saturday has shifted to side streets.

The wet and cold snow Sunday morning brought out the best and worst of the season, as children and their parents enjoyed the rare moments of tobogganing in the area, while others broke out the shovels.
