COVID-19 infections have dropped in Burnaby for the second consecutive week, according to newly released data.

The Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence, released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), shows Burnaby recorded 680 new cases from Jan. 9 to 15, 2022.

From Jan. 2 to 8, 2022, Burnaby saw a case total of 839.

The latest numbers equate to a 19% decrease.

COVID-19 positivity rate up, case rates down

Positivity rates for COVID-19 infections have gone up, the BCCDC says.

However, the updated data from Jan. 11 to 17, 2022, shows case rates in the four quadrants dropped as Omicron continues to put a major strain on B.C.'s health-care system.

Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.
