St. Thomas More's varsity football team is hosting its homecoming game on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Power Field against Holy Cross (Surrey).

The St. Thomas More Knights are off to a promising start in B.C. AAA football.

The Burnaby high school just needed extra time in their exhibition game against Notre Dame (Vancouver) last weekend to keep the confidence rolling into this Saturday's homecoming game.

The Knights defeated the Jugglers 20-14 in overtime at Burnaby Lake last Friday, Sept. 8, starting their pre-season campaign 1-0 with three more to play.

STM's 2023 regular season starts Sept. 29 at home against Carson Graham (North Vancouver).

The Knights are more than likely playing with a chip in their shoulders this year after coming up one game short of a berth in the provincial championship.

And, it was the red and white's first loss of that entire season after finishing atop of the AAA Central division undefeated at 6-0.

STM, following its wild-card victory over Mt. Douglas (Saanich), ran into a red-hot G.W. Graham (Chilliwack) squad that ran the BC Place gridiron to hand the Knights a 27-10 loss in the semifinal.

Going into the pre-season, the Knights were, and are still, ranked fourth by BC School Sports behind defending-champion Vancouver College, G.W. Graham and Carson Graham.

This year, Grade 12 senior Gurjaan Siddoo will be leading the charge at quarterback.

He'll look to rally the school's spirit at STM's Power Field tomorrow, Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m. when the Knights take on Holy Cross (Surrey).

The homecoming game will include a series of family activities, including a play zone for kids up to 12 years old, from noon to 6 p.m.

STM's 2023 schedule is as follows:

  • Sept. 29, 7:30 p.m. vs. Carson Graham (at Burnaby Lake)
  • Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m. vs. South Delta (at Burnaby Lake)
  • Oct. 13, 7 p.m. at Centennial
  • Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m. vs. Terry Fox (at Burnaby Lake)
  • Oct. 27, 7 p.m. at Seaquam
  • Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m. at New Westminster
