A Burnaby care facility is no longer under a COVID-19 outbreak declaration.

Fraser Health announced today (Nov. 16), the outbreak at Swedish Assisted Living Residence has officially been classified as over.

The outbreak was declared by the health authority on Oct. 19, 2021, when three cases were detected.

As of the latest update on Nov. 5, there had been eight confirmed cases and no deaths.

The care home, located at 7230 Halifax St., is an assisted living centre owned and operated by the Swedish Canadian Rest Home Association.

"With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases at these locations," Fraser Health said in a statement today (Nov. 16).

In the past week, two more significant outbreaks were declared by Fraser Health.

On Nov. 8, Fraser Health declared an outbreak at the Burnaby Hospital after evidence was found of transmission in a medicine unit.

As of that update, two patients have tested positive in the unit, which has been temporarily closed to admissions.

The emergency department at the hospital remains open and no other areas in the hospital have been affected.

Two days later on Nov. 10, 10 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed at the George Derby Centre in Burnaby

Last November, the George Derby Centre had a massive, tragic outbreak with 109 cases confirmed and 36 lives lost.

The health authority said on Nov. 10, they had proactively implemented the following measures:

  • Staffing levels are being supported to maintain resident care
  • Social visits are restricted in the affected areas of the facility. Essential visits can continue
  • Staff and residents movement in the affected areas of the facility has been modified to minimize exposure to others
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been further enhanced
  • Residents, families and staff are being notified
  • Twice a day screening of all staff and residents is taking place
  • Additional testing and screening is in place to support monitoring of disease control
