COVID-19 cases decrease again in Burnaby.

For the second straight week, COVID-19 cases throughout Burnaby have gone downward.

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence for Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, 2021, the city recorded 74 new infections.

Burnaby saw 82 cases from Oct. 24 to 30, 2021.

The latest numbers are a 10% drop from the previous reporting period according to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

During the past week, two more COVID-19 outbreaks have been declared at health care facilities, Fraser Health announced.

On Nov. 10, the health authority said there had been 10 confirmed cases at the George Derby Centre in Burnaby which was also the facility that suffered a tragic outbreak last November where 109 cases were confirmed and 36 lives lost.

Two days prior, Fraser Health revealed an outbreak had been declared at Burnaby Hospital after evidence was found of transmission in a medicine unit.

Two patients tested positive at the time of the announcement and the unit has been temporarily closed to admissions.

The emergency department at the hospital remains open and no other areas in the hospital have been affected.

In other local data, all four quadrants in Burnaby saw little movement in positivity and case rates.

The data, released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) for Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, 2021,  also shows vaccination rates in the city also continue to stall for both first and second doses.

Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.
