Fall into a season of exciting theatre and live performances in Burnaby

For all you theatre, arts and culture folks, fall is already shaping to be an exciting one in Burnaby.

Shadbolt Centre for the Arts has announced its fall lineup of performances — because who said you have to travel to Vancouver or Montreal to get a fulfilled art experience?

A mix of world-class and homegrown stars are set to kick off Shadbolt's fall schedule of live performances this September and October.

From Sept. 22, 11 shows are scheduled at Shadbolt venues — an intimate setting: Studio Theatre and the larger, James Cowan Theatre — from 7:30 p.m. onwards.

Here’s the September and October lineup of the fall season of Shadbolt Centre performances:

September

Marc Atkinson Trio with Cam Wilson

On Sept. 22, to kick-off the fall season, Juno nominated artist Marc Atkinson will accompany his jazz trio to deliver an unforgettable performance, at studio theatre. Joining the band as a special guest will be violinist Cam Wilson.

Little Miss Higgins

On Sept. 28, Little Miss Higgins, a Juno and Maple Blues awards nominee and winner of three western Canadian music awards will be playing her country blues, jazz and folk music to the people of greater Vancouver area.

Bunk #7

Also on Sept. 28 and 29, Bunk #7, a compelling play about the true story of six Indigenous boys and a riot at Edmonton Indian Residential School in St. Albert, Alta., in 1960-61, will be on stage at James Cowan theatre from 7 p.m. The untold story written by playwright Larry Guno, will narrate the untold story of resilience and rebellion. The show is a production of the Terrace-based The Raven Collective.

October

In Praise of Nightmares

Witness a short film and a feature length film exemplifying surrealism and expressionism in early film on Oct. 27 at the studio theatre. Silent films These are silent films Un Chien Andalou (1929) by Salvador Dali, Louis Burnuel (15 min) and Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922) by F. W. Murnau (1hr 30 min) with live musical accompaniment.

Cory Weeds Quintet

Cory Weeds Quintet returns to Burnaby this fall — this time with a special guest, New York jazz scene veteran, Jerry Weldon.

Weldon, who is a leading proponent of Soul Jazz will be playing tenor saxophone along with Cory Weeds (tenor saxophone), Bruce Harris (trumpet), Miles Black (piano), Conrad Good (bass) and Jesse Cahill (drums).
