Nearly two pounds of illegal drugs seized in Burnaby traffic stop

Woman, 24, faces drug trafficking, weapons and police-obstruction charges after she tried to walk away from the scene

A 24-year-old woman faces drug dealing, weapons and police-obstruction charges after nearly two pounds of illicit drugs and numerous weapons were found in her vehicle in Burnaby early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Officers observed “drug trafficking activity” involving the vehicle and pulled it over in a back lane near Newcombe Street and 16th Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. according to Burnaby RCMP.

A search revealed packages of meth, cocaine, fentanyl, opium and GHB (sometimes called a "date rape" drug) totalling nearly two pounds, police said.

Officers also found a modified gun magazine, several knives, bear spray and a retractable baton.

The driver had attempted to walk away but was apprehended by police and taken into custody, police said.

She now faces a slew of possible charges, including obstruction of a police officer, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited device, possession of identity documents and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
