Vaccinations continue to lag in Burnaby as health officials have reimplemented some health mandates.

Ninety per cent of eligible residents in Northwest Burnaby are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 while the three other quadrants continue to stall.

As of Oct. 18, 2021, 10% of residents in the northwest remain unvaccinated. The northeast sits at 12%, the southwest is 13% while the southeast has the highest percentage of eligible residents unvaccinated at 85%.

Provincial health officials are still pleading with the public to get immunized against the virus, with some large pockets in the province suffering from major outbreaks due to low vaccination rates, particularly in the north.

In other local data, case and positivity rates remain steady in all four quadrants.

According to the latest COVID-19 Surveillance Dashboard, the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) says case rates increased in northwest and northeast Burnaby while the rates decreased in the southwest and southeast from Oct. 12 to 18, 2021.

Northwest and southwest Burnaby both stayed the same for positivity rate, while northeast Burnaby saw a slight increase and the southeast decreased.

When it comes to case counts, the city saw a 33% drop in newly recorded infections during the latest reporting period from Oct. 10 to 16, 2021.

BCCDC data shows 106 cases confirmed compared to 160 from Oct. 3 to 9, 2021.

Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.
