Opinion: Couple with no conscience let dog defecate at Burnaby cemetery and then just walk away

FYI: Dogs aren't allowed at this Burnaby cemetery for obvious reasons

People who don’t pick up after their dogs when they poop are bad people, but since we’re dealing with a global pandemic, it’s not high on my list of things to write about.

Until now.

No, I’m taking a few minutes to write about two bad people who let their dog crap all over the cemetery where my Great Aunt Eva is buried.

So, yeah, it’s personal.

NOW reader Rys contacted me with some photos of the two scoundrels who let it happen at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby (one of them shows the poop with the people walking away but I'll spare you that gross image).

As you can see from the photo, they are just standing there watching the dog poop, which is weird because the dog is doing it right in front of a big sign that says dogs are not even allowed to be in the cemetery.

Maybe that’s because it’s disrespectful to have dogs running around peeing and pooping all over dead people.

“I’m angry at these two paragons of shamelessness and disdain,” said Rys. “And no, they didn't run away red-faced, they didn't even pick up after their dog, just continued their stroll down the cemetery. I can't even count on how many levels they screwed up. Disrespecting a cemetery, ignoring an explicit rule, disregarding a bylaw, and just generally being a crappy citizen, dog owner and human being.”

I mean, give your head a shake. Think about where you are and the significance of the place.

A few Facebook commenters regularly post on my columns that I am “sowing community divisions” because I criticize bad behaviour. It translates to “I want to do whatever the hell I want without repercussions.”

Well, it doesn’t work that way. I’m certainly not perfect. I have made mistakes and have been open about them, especially admitting that I’m a reformed bad driver.

In this case, I can’t help it – letting your dog crap at a cemetery is just a next-level bad move.

I didn’t have to blur out their faces, but I did because I’m just trying to raise awareness about the act so others might take a moment to change their behaviours. Sorry if that sows some divisions.
