Pedestrian unconscious in ditch for 30 mins after Burnaby hit-and-run

Police looking for driver after Monday morning collision left 30-year-old man with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A 30-year-old pedestrian lay unconscious in a ditch beside Marine Drive in Burnaby for half an hour after an apparent hit-and-run Monday morning, according to police.

Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of an injured man at the intersection of Marine Drive and Patterson Avenue.

Police say the victim had gotten off a transit bus sometime between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. and tried to cross Marine Drive when he was hit by a vehicle and lost consciousness.

He came to in a ditch on the side of the road half an hour later and managed to call for help, according to police.

He is now in hospital recovering from serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“This has been quite traumatic and painful for the victim,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a news release. “Please come forward if you can assist in identifying the responsible party.”
