A total of 52 parent advisory councils (PACs) in Burnaby are getting money from the provincial government to help pay for school projects.

Today, Dec. 15, Anne Kang, Burnaby-Deer Lake MLA and B.C.’s minister for municipal affairs, announced $11.2 million in community gaming grants for more than 1,300 PACs and district PACs around the province.

The PAC funding — at more than $503,000 — can be used to pay for equipment and costs for extra-curricular activities such as sports, dances and field trips while the DPAC coin can pay for promotional materials, meeting travel and room rentals and presenter fees.

"As a mother and a teacher, I know first-hand how important it is for students to learn, grow and have fun together outside the classroom," Kang said in a news release.

"Parents who volunteer their time and energy to create opportunities for students shouldn't be left to do all the fundraising themselves. I know these grants are helping parent advisory councils create vibrant and healthy communities in their kids' schools."
