The young man who was found in cardiac arrest near Lougheed SkyTrain station Thursday night has been identified.
Homicide investigators identified 21-year-old Marvin Benitez of Burnaby as the victim in last week’s murder. According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, the incident appears to be targeted but is not considered gang-related.
According to a media release, Burnaby RCMP and paramedics responded to a call near Austin Road and Lougheed Highway at about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6. The victim, Benitez, appeared to be in cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital, where he died shortly after arriving.
As the investigation is continuing, police are not releasing any information regarding possible suspects or Benitez’s cause of death.
Officers from the Burnaby RCMP and the Lower Mainland forensic identification section were on scene Friday, assisting homicide investigators in collecting evidence along the pathway where Benitez was found.
