(Video) Mail thieves on wheels hit Burnaby apartment

Police are looking for help identifying two suspected mail thieves caught on security video breaking into a Bonsor Avenue apartment building in October.

Police are looking for help finding two men who broke into a Burnaby apartment building in October, stole stacks of mail and then made their getaway on a bicycle and scooter.

A video released by the Burnaby RCMP shows the men prying open the front door of an apartment building in the 6500 block of Bonsor Avenue at about 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 1.

One man can then be seen prying open a row of mailboxes in the mailroom while the second man follows behind gathering up the mail from each box.

The men are then shown leaving on a scooter and bike.

The first suspect – the bike-riding one – is described as an Asian male with a medium build and short, black hair wearing a black jacket, white shirt, jeans, black shoes, a black and white mask and a black glove on his left hand.

The second suspect – who got away on the scooter – is described as a white male with a medium build wearing a black ball cap, black mask with white writing, a black jacket, black pants and black shoes.

Police are asking anyone who might recognize either suspect or have information about the break-in to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.

To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.

The incident had Burnaby RCMP cautioning local residents about their mail.

“Check and empty your mailbox daily,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a news release. “Ensure mailbox security is a priority because it doesn't take long to become a victim of mail theft.”
