The term “social distancing” has suddenly replaced “cancel culture” as the hot new phrase out there in the big, bad world. The problem is too many people are taking “social distancing” to the extreme. Not shaking hands is good.

Burnaby drivers had enough warnings about a distracted driving blitz earlier this week. There was a big banner hanging over an overpass. Volunteers and officers were holding up giant signs. Officers were also standing at an intersection.

Back in October 2018, Burnaby council made a final decision to deny a hookah lounge’s appeal of a city closure order. Pure Hookah Lounge on Hastings Street in the Heights had 119 noise complaints filed against it and the city had finally had enough.

I used to enjoy my grandparents telling me stories about living through the Depression and the Second World War. They laid out the tough times and how people just found ways to adjust to life when there was so little available.

Editor: How much convincing do some people need so that they take the novel coronavirus seriously? As it turns out, a lot, apparently.
