Dear Editor: I have known and respected Lindsay Meredith for a long time, but his analysis of last week’s election smacks of petty hostility and cynicism. No, people who voted for the B.C.

Not surprisingly, a poll taken on the weekend in B.C. reveals voters are “ambivalent” about the election result. It’s not surprising for a couple of reasons: Firstly, nobody is sure what the final result of the election is at this point.

No matter which party forms the next government in this province, the election results show the rural-urban divide that emerged from the 2013 election has become wider and perhaps more entrenched than ever before.

When the most important public opinion poll of all – the general election – teeters toward an uncertain conclusion, it’s no wonder that the polls conducted during a campaign don’t always reveal the mood of the electorate.

The election is over – well at least in Burnaby. It will be a couple of weeks before the final provincial tally is in – and, of course, there may be challenges and recounts as well. At press time on Thursday it was Liberals 43, NDP 41 and Greens 3.

Dear Editor: The spring Info Burnaby newsletter published a full-page spread on the merits of a proposed linear park running along the east side of Willingdon Avenue between Hastings Street and the Brentwood mall.

It was a brief news item lost in the swirl of the election tornado.

Dear Editor: I recently went to a “career fair” at my son’s elementary school. Grade 5 to 7 students were assigned the task of presenting a wide variety of possible careers, including pros and cons of each.
