"Burnaby teachers set poor community example." Nothing could be further from the truth.
What the writer seems to omit in his letter is that when it comes to “community,” teachers are part of the core. One teacher will know at least 25 families in the community.

In each of those families, the teacher will know the names of at least two people. That's one teacher and 50 people. Let's say an elementary school has 10 classes (that's a modest number). One teacher, 50 people. Ten classes ... ten teachers ... 500 people ... from your community. Now I ask you, how many people do you know and have a connection with in your community?
It goes without saying - these are tough times. And for young elementary school children, not being able to go to school is heartbreaking. For the most part, the children want to go to school. They want to see their friends. They want to be in their classroom, with their teacher.
So when you're a child and you find out that your teacher and all the other teachers will be driving by your house just to see you and say hello, you kinda feel special. The energy that those teachers bring for just a few moments has a way of making it a better day. Remember some of these children are just five years old.
Ease up. Of all the things to worry about now, honking cars, excited kids, waving arms, and smiling faces should be the least of your concerns. I hope.
