Letter: ‘Entitled’ Burnaby house owner writes ‘no parking’ notes in lipstick on my car

A Burnaby renter is fed up with being harassed about street parking

Several Burnaby renters have shared stories of people writing on their vehicles.

Editor:

I read some recent parking articles by your editor and I am going through weird and annoying situation in my neighbourhood.

I rent a basement suite in South Burnaby and there isn’t always parking available on the property as my landlord has an RV and a small boat.

So during many times of the year, I have to park on the street. My landlord is OK if I park in front of the house, but those spaces aren’t always available because there are other renters in the area.

I end up parking wherever I can find space, but there is one entitled homeowners who chews out the renters if they park in front of her house or the houses of her friends.

She has anointed herself as the parking cop for the neighbourhood and she can be rude about it. She’s told me why I don’t park on the property where I live and no matter how much I explain how renters have zero rights, she just won’t listen.

A few times, there have been mysterious notes written and left on the windshield of my car. They are always in the same handwriting. This has escalated to where I have had the words “no parking” written in lipstick on my car. These messages thankfully are washable but this is a ridiculous and childish way to go about life. The next time if happens, I'll send in photos to the NOW.

I can’t prove who does it because it happens while I’m in my home. But we all know who does it. Life is hard enough without someone harassing you for parking on a public street. Lady, you don’t own the street, no matter how much your crappy house is worth.
