Letter: We aren't 'notorious ratrunners' in Burnaby - we're just commuters

Opinion: Burnaby (sadly) turns down fixes to this notorious ratrunner route, NOW Opinion

Here goes Mr. Opinion, Chris Campbell, spouting off again without getting his facts in order or thinking before he puts his pen to paper.

I've commented before - stop the sensationalizing. That's for the Grocery Store Checkout Magazine Rack.

Living in North Burnaby for over 35 years and 33 years in Coquitlam prior. Nothing has changed to travel North and South in Burnaby. There are just fewer Options vs Traveling East & West on Main Roads capable of handling the increasing traffic. Other than Boundary Road, There are no straight through Main 4 Lane Routes that connect Hastings to Marine Way. Every existing route means funnelling into one lane or diverting off, Major Collector Roads.

So I disagree saying travellers are" Notorious Ratrunners." We're just trying to commute. Where does everyone get the idea that everyone is speeding, causing some horrific safety concern?

If you want to put forward suggestions to make it easier to commute, I'm all for it. But complaining with your only idea that lowering the speed limits or installing speed humps is the fix it's simply not the answer. Time for the city council to look at doing something productive rather than their petty band-aid tax-wasting speed humps and silly ideas, like the school zone so-called fix to a problem that never did exist.

Don Anderson, Burnaby

Editor’s note: Thank you for the nickname. I really like “Mr. Opinion.”
