It’s no fun having to shovel out your vehicle after a winter snowstorm. I know – I had to do it this morning (Monday). I’m not in the best physical shape, but it had to be done. And when I say “done,” I mean completely done.

My friend and I found ourselves driving through Burnaby last night at around 10 p.m. – just as the snowfall had picked up again and the temperatures had dropped to below freezing.

What’s the first rule of driving in the snow? Slow down. Take a breath and drive slower than you normally do because it’s icy out and your vehicle won’t be able to stop like it would in pristine conditions.

The Burnaby RCMP traffic enforcement unit has recently set up some speed traps on Marine Way, just east of Boundary road, where the speed limit drops from 70 km/h to 50 km/h. They suspected that drivers were not respecting the speed limit.

Well, Burnaby got hit hard by snow again overnight. And it’s sticking in many areas, with reports of drivers having trouble getting up Willingdon, Royal Oak and Cariboo hills. Burnaby Mountain - where I live - socked in with a lot of snow.

I switched to an electric vehicle a year ago. Quick-accelerating, so quiet its sound system seems it’s in my living room – and, of course, no fuel charges.
