My best friend growing up was a dude named Dave. He is Korean and living abroad now, but when we were in high school at Burnaby North Secondary, we were inseparable.

Look, let me be clear – I hate people who don’t scoop up the poop from their dogs. They are bad people who deserve to be publicly scorned and fined heavily. But a dog poop DNA registry? That sounds ridiculous.

Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley isn’t known for his rousing speeches at public events. He’s so humble he is the first person to tell you that. But put a guitar in his hands and he will charm a crowd like the one on Thursday night at the Metrotown Hilton.

I see people talking on social media about dumping in the City of Burnaby in terms of it being an “eyesore” or “unfortunate” to see. Sure, I hate looking at people’s garbage dumped all over my community, but it’s much more than that.

Three times in the past week, I’ve been driving on a Burnaby road and seen drivers do something stupid around ambulances.

At first, like every naive parent, I was excited to “fall back” on Sunday morning. In my mind, this season’s time change meant an extra hour in bed, and hopefully an extra hour early to bed too.
