When I left my home on Burnaby Mountain on Saturday, I had no idea a cyclist had been killed on Gaglardi Way just an hour before.

Editor: On any given day, I see various people biking around Burnaby. Some are the serious riders in cool outfits, others are people heading to work, and then there are the loafers like me, plodding along.

Burnaby South MP and federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has returned home. Well, home as in the place he moved into last year in order to gain a seat in the House of Commons. But, home is wherever you lay your hat and Singh picked our fine community.

Pizza is a touchy topic. Trying to get a group of people to agree on pizza can be like pouring gasoline on a campfire. People argue over which place is the best in their neighbourhood. Then they argue over what toppings they should get.

This is the next installment of We are Neighbours, a monthly series about people who volunteer with Burnaby Neighbourhood House. We have the typical immigrant story - we wanted a better life for our children.

The horrific situation involving camps run by the U.S. government has sparked some Burnaby residents to stage their own protest. A Burnaby event has been organized as part of the global Lights for Liberty campaign.

Dear Straight People: It has come to my attention that some of you are currently feeling hard done by and that your tender little feelings have been hurt because you don’t have Straight Pride Day.

This may not shock readers at all. It may even trigger the thought: “Great! Why didn’t we think of that? Let’s do it!” You decide. I’ve used up all my opinion juices for the month. Well, maybe there’s still a tad in the tank.

The term “wildfire season” is becoming too common with people. It’s not a season like “camping season” or “boating season.” It’s not something fun or something that people should get used to or accept.
